The McDonald’s® “All American Achievers™ Educational Contest

The McDonald’s® “All American Achievers™” Educational Contest (the "Contest") begins 9/30/08, and ends 12/8/08 in the (50) United States and District of Columbia (“Territory”). Void where prohibited. Eligible students in grades 7 and 8 are encouraged to use their writing skills to explain what exemplifies them as an All American Achiever. Eligible Students must be residents of the Territory enrolled in the 7th or 8th grades at an “Eligible School.” Eligible Teachers must be 18 years of age or older, a resident of the Territory, and a teacher in a school of eligible students. Eligible Schools are any accredited public, private or parochial school in the Territory containing any class with students in the 7th grade or 8th grade, any United States military school containing any class with students in the 7th grade or 8th grade, and home schools containing any students in the 7th grade or 8th grade operated in accordance with the home school laws, rules and regulations governing home schools in the jurisdiction in which it operates.
How to Enter: McDonald’s (“Sponsor”) asks students to answer: “What makes you an All American Achiever?” Students participate by writing an essay that responds to three questions. The essay must include a separate paragraph for each of the three questions and the entire essay must be no less than 600 words and no more than 1,000 words.
The three questions are:
1) What academic accomplishments are you most proud of from this school year or the previous school year and how did you achieve them?
2) What have you learned from participating in extra-curricular activities?
3) How have you demonstrated good leadership/citizenship in your community?
An essay must be in English, and typed on 8.5” x 11” white paper and double spaced or hand written or hand printed legibly on wide line standard size loose leaf paper with student’s name, school and grade in upper left hand corner. Once submitted for class judging, an essay cannot be changed, altered or modified, becomes the sole property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. Limit one essay per student. Class essays will be judged by the class teacher with a score between 0-100 (100 being the top score) for the total essay, based on: 50% how well the essay answered the questions (1-3 above), and 50% how well answers were supported with details; and one point per characteristic (Characteristics of a McDonald’s All American Achiever are a student who: Values education and actively participates in learning; Is engaged in extracurricular activities in school; Abides by school rules and regulations; Holds a leadership position or exhibits leadership abilities in a student group/organization; Has perfect attendance as of date of entry; Is Attentive; Inquisitive; Positive; Proactive; Respectful; A Goal Setter; A Team Player) will be added. The class essay with the highest total score will participate in the national judging.

Entries must be postmarked by 12/8/08, and received by 12/12/08. Entries must be mailed to:

BE SURE THAT THE ENTRY’S GRADE IS PROMINENT AND LEGIBLE. The essay receiving the highest class score being submitted for national judging must have the words “submitted for national judging” hand written on the score sheet. If a school has more than one 7th Grade class and/or more than one 8th Grade class, the Entries for each class must be mailed in a separately stamped outer envelope. Proof of mailing is not proof of delivery or receipt. The essays for national judging will be judged by a judging panel with a score between 0-100 (100 being the top score) for the total essay, based on: 50% how well the essay answered the questions (1-3 above), and 50% how well answers were supported with details. The characteristics points awarded in the class judging and the teacher’s scores will NOT be used in the final judging. The 7th grade student whose essay receives the highest 7th grade score will be deemed the 7th grade Grand Prize potential winner. The 8th grade student whose essay receives the highest 8th grade score will be deemed the 8th grade Grand Prize potential winner. The next 49 students in each grade whose essay receives the next highest scores in their grades will be deemed the potential First Prize winners in their respective grades. Prizes: Two (2) Grand Prizes are available, one to the 7th grade winner and one to the 8th grade Grand Prize winner. Each will receive $500 awarded as a gift card and a premium laptop computer ARV $800. Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of each Grand Prize: $1,300. Ninety-Eight (98) First Prizes: (Forty-nine (49) per grade). Each will receive $250 awarded as a gift card. Two (2) Teacher Prizes: one to the teacher of the 7th grade Grand Prize winner and one to the teacher of the 8th grade Grand Prize winner. Each will receive $500 awarded as a Gift Card. Two (2) School Prizes: one to the school of the 7th grade Grand Prize winner and one to the school of the 8th grade Grand Prize winner. Each school will receive a $2,000 check. Contest is subject to the Official Rules, available at 365Black.com. Box 3193, Oak Brook, IL 60522-3193. All requests must be received by 12/12/08. Return postage may be omitted on Rules requests that are mailed to a return address located in VT. Limit one request per outer envelope.
